Last week the latest music video from Rihanna: Needed Me came out. Strong text, violence and sexual images have once again caused polemics.

The video talks about vengeance, and at the end of the video we see Rihanna killing a man. The violent scenes do not stop here. Indeed, the singer is almost naked, in the sexual scenes featured.

This video has been directed by Harmony Korine, his unique style consists on violence and rebellion. He has already produced controversial music videos and movies such as: Spring Breakers. Actually, the final scene of the Spring Breakers seems to be the same as the latest video of Rihanna, where we see Selena Gomez, Ashley Benson and Vanessa Hudgens killing a group of men.

As it often happens, these kinds of themes are much criticized in magazines and on social network. And this has been no exception for Rihanna’s music video.

But I wonder, why all this  controversy about it? Rihanna isn’t new to sexy and violent videos or even style. She has already, in the past, proved to be a provocative singer. For example : Work (with the rapper Drake) and Man Down (where she also kills a man) could be seen as sexy and violent.

Riri is the queen of pop music, and I think that the key of her success is: PROVOCATION. What matters more in the star system is to be spoken about, and using sex and violence usually involve a reaction.

Honestly, looking at the video clip “Needed me”, I didn’t find it as shocking as it appears to be. She has done more provocative and violent video clips in the past.  Rihanna’s style: sexy and rebel is definitely her trademark which appeals to me.

An extreme personality like her, either you love it or you hate it. Personally I love her… and what about you guys 🙂 ?
